Abstract:

OPHTHALMOMYIASIS is pathology of eye due to presence of fly larva, which rarely occurs in the world, and most cases has been reported in developing countries. These days incidence of OPHTHALMOMYIASIS has been decreased in Iran. Most cases of OPHTHALMOMYIASIS caused by presence of fly Larvae Oestrus Ovis.In summer 2011, a fourty year old rural woman with a good hygine presented to Ophthalmology department of Rouhani Hospital. She had no background of any disease. After physical examination EXTERNAL OPHTHALMOMYIASIS was diagnosed. all seven larva has been removed, Topical antibiotic and corticosteroid were prescribed for daily use. Two days later in follow up the eye was asymptomatic.

Abstract:

Myiasis of different organs has been reported from various regions in the world. Infection of the eye might appear as eyelids problems or conjunctiva (OPHTHALMOMYIASIS externa), or the larvae may invade into the eye (OPHTHALMOMYIASIS interna). We report 4 human cases of EXTERNAL ophthalmic myasis from Yazd province, in central region of Iran. All of them referred with symptoms of acute conjunctivitis. Mean age of patients was 34 years. All of them were male and from rural areas. Multiple larvae were observed over the bulbar conjunctiva and cornea. After removing larva, symptoms relieved within a few hours. The organisms were identified as Oestrus ovis.

Abstract:

Myiasis is an animal or human pathogenic condition initiated by parasitic dipterous fly larvae feeding in the host’ s necrotic or living tissue. Here we report a case of EXTERNAL OPHTHALMOMYIASIS caused by Lucilia sericata in a 78-yr-old with a vascular tumor of the retina and surgery history, from Bijar City of Kurdistan Province, Iran in 2015. Associated symptoms included right eye pain with mucoid ocular discharge, headache, sensing the presence of a foreign body in the eye and itching. Examination revealed a L. sericata Larva in his right eye. Infestation of ocular tissue by fly larvae (OPHTHALMOMYIASIS) progresses after retinal surgery and can destroy orbital tissues within days, especially in patient with poor hygienic conditions. Treatment consists of removal of the larvae and surgical debridement. Following removal of larva, the symptoms completely resolved within a few hours and remained asymptomatic several weeks later.

Abstract:

Myiasis is the infestation of tissues and organs of animals or man by fly larvae. Ophthalmic myiasis has been reported of various world regions. In this study we present the clinical manifestations with OPHTHALMOMYIASIS caused by Oestrus ovis larvae in 8 patients from Fars Province in southern Iran. All of the patients were farmers, in close contact with sheep and goat. All patients presented with severe conjunctivitis. The larvae were observed in the bulbar conjunctiva, and following their removal, the symptoms of eye inflammation improved in a few hours.

Abstract:

Introduction: OPHTHALMOMYIASIS is a rare disorder that is caused by invasion of dipterous larvae to necrotic tissues.Case Presentation: An 80-year-old woman with invasive basal cell carcinoma (BCC) presented anabnormal growth of worm in her eye. She had OPHTHALMOMYIASIS caused by Lucilia sericata larva in here nucleated eye. L. sericata is common all over the temperate and tropical regions, mainly in the southern hemisphere, particularly in Africa and Australia.Discussion: Immunocompromised patients with diabetes, malignancies, and patients undergoing immunosuppressive therapy are at high risk of OPHTHALMOMYIASIS. In addition, aggressive treatment is needed to prevent the secondary infections.

Abstract:

Myiasis is the invasion of vertebrates’ tissue by the larvae of a fly of the order Diptera. The objective of this paper is to present a rare case of secondary myiasis of ocular infestation by Chrysomya bezziana. A 55-year-old female from Sar village of Mazandaran Province, northern Iran), referred to Khatam Al-Anbia Hospital of Mashhad with extensive destruction of left orbital cavity. Existence of larvae was the major complaint in recent months. Some live larvae were removed from her destructed left eye. Primary diagnosis was myiasis of left upper lid (LUL) and suspected recurrent Basal cell carcinoma (BCC). The laboratory diagnosis was done in parasitology lab of Imam Reza Hospital of Mashhad and collected larvae were identified and confirmed to be larvae of the C. bezziana (Diptera: Calliphoridae). It is a case report of secondary ophtalmiomyiasis due to C. bezziana of a patient lives in Mazandaran Province.
